FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 10 2012
The Literary Platform is hosting an international video competition inviting creatives to produce an animation that illustrates a rare and prophetic audio recording of Douglas Adams talking in 1993 about the Evolution of the Book.
In 1993 Douglas Adams, the world-renowned author of The Hitchhikers Guide of the Galaxy, recorded a short piece of audio for his publisher explaining his view of how the book has evolved from writing on rocks, to scrolls and then to the bound book before he boldly predicted an electronic device that allowed ‘pictures, text, scrolling and page turning to be modelled in software, and you could take as many books as you wanted anywhere you like’
The contest asks creative types to create a video that illustrates the audio and submit it to the contest website. Entries will be judged by Stephen Fry (Actor and Comedian), Bob Stein (SocialBook, Inc), Ranjit Dhaliwal (The Guardian) and Merlin Nation and Chris Angelkov (Atyp).
The contest will run simultaneously on the Literary Platform’s website, Facebook Page and on Mobile Devices and is made possible by Launchpad6, a video services company that allows organisations to instantly launch full-featured, cross platform video sites.
‘Launchpad6 has been instrumental in making our contest a reality’ said Sophie Rochester of the Literary Platform ‘Their platform allowed us to seamlessly integrate the contest into our Website & Facebook Page as well as making it available on Mobile Devices, meaning our audience can appreciate the creative submissions wherever they may be’
The winner of the competition will win an iPad 2 loaded with Douglas Adams books and apps and a Don’t Panic towel to carry on Towel Day, the annual celebration of the life and work of Douglas Adams.
Selected entrants will also see their work hosted on The Literary Platform and exhibited at a launch event to tie in with Towel Day.
The competition platform is now open for entries and the deadline for uploading entries is 15 April 2012. The longlist will be announced on 30 April with final judging leading up to the Towel Day announcement on 25 May 2012.
